This Weeks Featured Store - Funny Bones

* How did you get started at Zazzle?

A friend of mine was selling at another site of this type. I tried and it was frustrating. I have purchased several items from Zazzle and was impressed with the look.... so I thought I would try selling here and so far it has been fun.

* Where do you get your inspiration for designing from?

You name it. I see something and it sparks an idea. Some of those ideas end up in my store under one of my categories.

* Do you have formal training in Designing/Art/PC?

No I don't.

* Tell us about your experience at Zazzle as a shop owner

I have been pleased. The community here is wonderful and helpful. The Customer Service prompt and helpful also.

* What advice would you give other Zazzle owner that helped you the most in your experience at Zazzle.

Jump right in. Everyone has a good idea, saying, design etc. that others would like to see. This site is easy to work on and the community is wonderfully helpful and supportive.

* Provide a URL to your two best sellers - or favourite designs from your store.

Diary of a Watercolour Painting

Welcome to my step by step diary of a commissioned painting!

This article is about my latest commission, of a rather interesting local village. I hope it gives you an insight into how a watercolour evolves. I also think you will be interested to learn more about the village of Lavenham, with it's ancient buildings and links to the USA during the second world war...

I am a working artist, and since I don't specialise in portraits, or those ever popular pencil sketches of Fido, or a breed that looks just like him... commissions are fairly rare for me. Generally I just paint stuff I like, and hope it sells, which sometimes it does.

So it is exciting to get a commission, and scary too, as there is no messing up, no try it and see.

My first ever commission came from a painting I had on display in my local french run cafe. The painting featured a calf, standing knee deep the in water of a local pond in front of a mill. but the lady who contacted me did not want anything bovine. "It's for my husband," she explained. "He doesn't like cows, he likes herons" "can you paint it with a heron?" Well it wasn't unreasonable, I re-painted the picture, popped the heron in, and everyone was happy.

Freaky Frank

Freaky Frank is the original artwork of Sketchart26. It was designed in Coral painter Pro, on Thursday the 29th of April 2010, straight from my imagination. This strange little character has colourful spikes all over its back and a bubble like body and dragon like tail. He also has a pinkish face similar to that of a dogs and red strip down his nose and spiky red spikes on his forehead. It is unknown as to what this creature really is so I will leave t up to you to figure out.

Don'ts of Email Marketing

By Sketchart26

Monday 26th April 2010
So with email marketing you have the potential to open up a can of worms in terms of getting the message out there. But first there are a few things you need to be sure not to do as those worms will keep on running. YOU REALLY DON’T WON’T TO BE WAISTING VALUEABLE TIME CHASING THOSE WORMS
When we write an Email Campaign the first thing people see is your “Subject Line” when they open up their email. So keep the “Subject Line”, under 30 – 40 characters (including spaces), so keep it short and be sure it sparks their interest straight away through persuasive language. You can find some great advice on that here http://www.orangeusd.k12.ca.us/yorba/persuasive_writing.htm
Don’t bore your subscribers/customers. Keep your paragraphs short and to the point. No more than maybe two or three sentences long. So write down what you would like to say and then go through it cutting out all that you can, but keeping the most important things you wish to say. As your readers will more than likely only scan your paragraphs for keywords.
Never just assume that your subscribers/customers will read your email every time. Chances are they won’t. So you need to provide a reason for them to want to keep coming back. Throw in a few ads that are relevant, or free tips which relate to your product or topic. This will provide incentive for them to return.
A great place to access a lot of great free Email Marketing tips is here http://email.about.com/od/emailmarketingtips/Email_Marketing_Tips_Tricks_and_Secrets.htm
Don’t just assume your email campaigns are working. Keep a record of those that worked and those that didn’t work. Through this you can learn to successful write your future campaigns.
Never send your emails out in bulk before putting them to the test. Many email companies can view your email differently making your campaign look terrible. So set up a few free email accounts at different serves i.e., yahoo, Gmail, and send your campaign to yourself to see what it looks like.
Never over do your campaigns. If you send to many in a short period you are sure to reduce the chance of keeping peoples interest. So space them out. Split your database into groups according to your products/industry.
Don’t sit back and think your subscriptions will grow on their own. They won’t. It requires a little hard work on your part. Get out there and invite people in. Use your Squidoo lenses, your signatures on email accounts and other relevant accounts, MSN, Facebook they all offer a world of opportunity.
MOST IMPORTANT.
Never cut corners. Take the time to write your campaign and make sure it looks good, spaced right, is relevant and easy to read. Keep in mind the colours you choice to write in as some people have trouble viewing these.
Most important have fun doing it

Why I decided to open a Zazzle store

It's because I am a frustrated artist

Yep I am a frustrated artist. I always wanted to study digital art- those vector and pixel stuff that kids nowadays are well-versed at. But at my age, I guess all I can do is dream about it.

Until I stumbled upon some software applications that can make my life easier in terms of designing. I chose the one that is easy to use and has simple interface because it helps me render photographs of nature such as landscapes, beaches, sceneries, flowers and even unnatural subjects such as fireworks, into abstract art.

As you can see on my Zazzle store, most of the designs are abstract. I try to manipulate the photographs that I have which were taken by my sister. I use various rendering features to generate a new look- from natural to digital abstract. Hence the store's name: Nature Meets Digital

I made this page because I work hard on my Zazzle gallery and my designs, and wanted a fun way to reach new people like you.
